All East Midlands localities took part in this project, with the objective of achieving an equitable proportion of people with mental ill health self directing their own support. The work sat within their existing local transformation plans for March 2011 (and associated targets for NI 130).

£30,000 was allocated to each of the five sub regional partnerships (Partnership Trusts, Local Authorities and Primary Care Trusts). They developed their own projects to address local key issues and achieve individual targets. By March 2010 543 additional people with mental ill health were self directing their support, exceeding original targets.

The project case study and final report can be found below.

The Personalisation Programme ran an action learning set focused on mental health and personalisation which supported the programme and evolved in to the ongoing Mental Health and Personalisation Network. You can find out more about the action learning set work on the Consultancy Support page.

Towards the end of the projects, at people's one year reviews, it was found that personal budgets could play a key role in recovery / reablement plans and potential efficiencies through reduced need for intensive services; further work is being undertaken to capture and share this information. Examples of case studies from across the region are available on the East Midlands Mental Health Case Studies page.
