Dignity and Safeguarding
Launched in 2006, the Dignity in Care Campaign aimed to stimulate a national debate around dignity in care and create a care system where there is zero tolerance of abuse and disrespect of adults. An extensive programme of activity was undertaken to raise awareness of dignity in care, share good practice, embed dignity into mainstream practice and inspire local people to take action. As a result of these efforts approximately 3500 dignity champions are now active in the South East.
The safeguarding programme has supported the health and social care system to develop robust approaches to safeguarding consistent with the personalisation agenda. Support has been provided to local authority safeguarding leads and close links established with health networks.
